Age Friendly Housing

We want to support older people to be able to stay in their home and be independent as long as they want to. We also want to encourage people to look ahead and consider their housing needs as they get older and plan accordingly to ensure their home is affordable, of good quality, of the right size and with flexible support available.

The city needs to work towards providing the right mix of new housing, with suitable types of specialist housing for older people, e.g. extra care housing, with high accessibility standards.

We want to ensure that the strategy supports people to live independent lives and remain a part of their community as they get older. It needs to encourage people to think about their housing options in old age, and to make sure the information and advice is available so people can make the right decisions.

Our new strategy also needs to help ensure that there is the right kind of housing in place for older people.
