New Council Homes

Leeds City Council is working to deliver 1,500 high quality council homes by 2025 to meet increasing need in the city and to deliver on our aim to be the best city to live in. Pressure on council housing stock is increasing with an average of 262 bids for each home advertised in the local area.

The proposal

The Council has appointed ENGIE Regeneration Ltd (Equans) to undertake site investigations and surveys on the above site to ascertain it if is suitable for housing development. Equans have commissioned 3rd party Lithos Consulting to carry out these works. Residents will therefore see survey activity over the coming months. Investigation of the ground below the surface of the site will also be carried out and this will be undertaken by digging trail pits and drilling boreholes. For both the trail pits and boreholes, the use of light machinery will be required.

The investigations are planned in 2 phases, the first phase around late February and then again in June 2022 for approximately 10 months. The machinery will generally operate from 8.00am to 6pm Monday - Friday.

Why this site was chosen

There is a shortage of affordable housing in Leeds. This housing development will support the Council’s priorities of providing quality, affordable housing where it is needed.

All homes will offer very high standards for design quality, space and energy efficiency. The homes are designed for the future, and will be designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and to help tackle fuel poverty in the city.
