Thank you to everyone who took part in our lettings policy consultation. The survey has closed and we are reviewing all responses and drawing up final proposals. The outcomes will be available later this year.
Please visit our Advice Aid page if you need advice tailored to your housing situation.
We are considering making changes to who can join the housing register and how we let our homes due to the increased demand for social housing.
There are over 27,000 households on the Leeds Homes Register, and over 5,000 of these are in Band A, the highest priority band. Most Band A customers are waiting over 2 years to be offered a home with the council.
The majority of customers on the housing register are in Band C and have little or no chance of being offered a home.
We are considering changes so that:
Offers are made to those in highest need
We make best use of available homes, particularly larger properties
We give realistic advice and information about who is likely to be offered a home and rehoused
The proposals being considered would mainly affect customers looking for a council home, but some will also affect lettings made by housing associations. In 2022-23 the council rehoused 2770 customers and 900 customers were rehoused by housing associations under our nominations agreements.
Before we make any changes, we want to make sure we take your views into account.
The outcomes to the survey will be summarised and used to finalise the proposed changes in the Summer of 2024.
