Pre-planning Public Consultation - CLOSED

Leeds City Council is working to deliver 1,500 high quality council homes over the next five years to meet increasing need in the city and to deliver on our aim to be the best city to live in. Pressure on council housing stock is increasing with an average of 359 bids for each home advertised in the local area.

The proposal

The Council’s appointed contractor, Equans, are preparing a planning application to provide the new extra care facility on the site.

We would welcome your views prior to submitting the planning application for the development, which will provide:

  • 53 x 1 bed apartments
  • 12 x 2 bed apartments

Total 65 unit extra care scheme along with communal shared facilities including catered dining facilities and a hair salon.

The extra care housing facility will be run by the Council and will help residents to live with dignity and stay independent for as long as possible. The facility will:

  • Provide onsite access to emergency or unplanned care
  • Help to alleviate social isolation through access to shared facilities, dining and activities
  • Allow people to use their personal budgets
  • Provide accessible and flexible accommodation designed, or capable of being adapted.

Residents will have access to care onsite and care staff will provide support for residents with a range of care needs. The scheme will enable residents to live independently for longer.

All homes will be let and managed by Leeds City Council.

Why this site was chosen

The site is allocated for housing in the Site Allocation Plan.

This housing development will support the Council's priorities of providing quality, affordable housing where it is needed. The site was a former day centre which has been demolished so this is in an ideal location for an Extra Care Scheme.

All Homes will offer very high standards for design quality, space and energy efficiency. The homes are designed for the future, and will be designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and to help tackle fuel poverty in the city.
